After going back into the SAO environment, I'm looking forward to SAO: Alicization.

by squilcon on Interesting side story of SAO. I really enjoyed it. It's not as good as the other SAO series and the story is predictable, but it still has a good story with interesting characters.

Overall, it has great fighting scene and even good humor at times. I recommend it if you liked the Gun Gale part of SAO. by Helemar on A series about personal growth, and a chunk of drama. There's a ton of foreshadowing all throughout the series, so you kind of see the end coming. Didn't really take away from it though, just made it feel satisfying.

With that said, I can't say it was a terrible idea to make a spin off of SAO using another of the worlds. I hope they don't do it again though, I could see this getting really old really quick. If you enjoyed the GGO portion of SAO, you'll definitely enjoy this. by ornehx on Light sweet and easy watch. Contrary to other SAO series, this one was rather a smooth easy one - without tension, stress or any deep sinister elements.

The plot was also rather straight forward and shallow. It did try to inject some dark element but it was rather tame. But mind you, it does NOT mean this is a bad alt story of SAO - in fact I liked it pretty much over the rest of the SAO except SAO S1. I actually found this formula for SAO to be rather refreshing I do find some of the other SAO is rather forced All in, really its a nice watch - not much effort needed but lots of return in entertainment gained.

Reviews add review. show review. by irohma on Rating: 5. Approval: Review Let's be blunt: Sword Art Online is a shit-ton of failures. Its fandom may blindly say otherwise, but the heart of the franchise was built upon lames harem-building and siscon templates that completely destroyed the amazing premise it had. It's second season, however, retified some of its mistakes, doing rounds with a more interesting heroine and ultimately becoming an emotional drama about the joys of sharing happiness with friends in death's door.

Now we have this spin-off tale derived from Gun Gale Online, perhaps the setting where things went the best in the series so far. The name of the spin-off, however, is not remotely inviting. Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online SAO Alternative for short is an surprisingly different show from everything else in the franchise, a stand-alone tale about the Pink Devil, a famous player-killer in the game, and her rise.

Yup, as simple as that No ingame deaths, no massive experiments, no fucking Kirito for god's grace. SAO Alternative is a much simpler tale this time around. It goes around the fact that GGO is a serious game with gun-whores fanatics and guerrilla lovers, throwing in a cute girl with pink clothes and a pink submachine gun capable of murdering other players with the speed of a devil.

It starts with her skill being shown off in a team battle royale and later the show gets back to how she got to the game in the first place.

And it's about the players finally Yeah. SAO Alternative is a lot more about Karen, the player controlling the Pink Devil Llenn and less about just being a game addict.

There are a lot of scenes dedicated towards the real life setting and very little focus on the game. In fact, the game only matters during the two battle royales of the story, every other time the focus is on Karen's life, although it does evolve mostly on the fact that she plays a game. Anyway, such a move from virtual world to real world makes SAO Alternative the most sensible of the franchise so far, rivaling the late arc of the second season, which I will forever call Sword Feels Online.

It's also far too dumb Well, it is. You see, Karen's main drama this time around is dealing with a cheater player, which is her best ingame friend, and the fact she the ingame friend is traumatized for NOT have played Sword Art Online a few years back. It's an interesting although contractory idea, but sadly everything is so exagerated that any kind of drama or sadness is thrown away instantly.

Pito, the traumatized girl, is completely nuts, M is completely nuts, Karen's best friend and loli-companion ingame is a pure copy of the genki template, and so on. There is not a single character that draws a sense of complexity besides the protagonist, and even she is just slightly developed in her problems and they are very mundane and superficial as far as the show give us too. It got a different studio Studio 3Hz is the hand behind the animation this time and not A-1 Pictures.

The result is, however, not that much different. There is a lot of wasted time in idle talks, a massive chunk of the show goes to M explaining things, and when combat ensues things are just ok. For a show about guns and firefights, however, it does things decent enough, providing the battle royale a good deal of tension while impressing us with the skills of some players with the expressive and cute cast. It could be a lot better though, especially because Gun Gale Online is sold as a dark and gritty game, which would require darker and more dirty characters to sell that idea better.

It's funny yet how Llenn and her pink suit stands out. Comments SAO Alternative respects its name. It is an alternative approach to the franchise in comparison to the two main seasons. Instead of being an attempt at detailing and giving life to a virtual world, it is more about the players having fun with it while facing their own personal problems.

Considering the mess the first season was and how it shone when dealing with tragedy later in the second season, it is interesting seeing this spin-off take the route of fleshing out the real world of this setting. Karen yet proves that anyone can be better than fuckn Kirito, as she is a decent lead with a funny character while ingame and a resemblance of a normal life outside it. Sadly though, the rest of the cast is a major turn down to what could be a much darker and more personal tale about traumas and escapism.

The pair then head to a train station, where Llenn gives Fukaziroh directions to launch grenades at the enemy. After discovering that seven teams have gathered around the base of the mountain, Llenn deduces they are all working with each other to take down Pitohui. Ten Minute Massacre Juppunkan no Oosatsu 十分間の鏖殺. June 9, Undeterred by the number of opposing teams, Pitohui and her team launch an ambush on them, taking them all out within ten minutes.

Meanwhile, Llenn and Fukaziroh make their way through a dome, having to resort to using a smokescreen tactic when they are discovered. After taking out the other players in the dome, the girls end up having to deal with the remaining player, Clarence, for her remaining magazines, before coming up against the skilled MMTM team.

The Devil's Comeback Maou Fukkatsu 魔王復活. June 16, Helped out by SHINC's Eva, who forces MMTM to retreat, Llenn explains the situation concerning Pitohui to her. Following this, Eva leads SHINC in an assault against PM4, using one of their dead teammate's body as a pedestal an anti-tank rifle to destroy M's shield. This provides Llenn with the opportunity to make a beeline towards Pitohui, only for another team's sniper to hit her first, bringing her down to a sliver of health.

With Pitohui passed out and MMTM closing in on their location, the rest of PM4 sacrifice themselves to protect Pitohui before she regains consciousness. Psycho LLENN Ikareta LLENN イカれたレン. June 23, After Pitohui finishes off MMTM all by herself, Fukaziroh pins an uncertain Llenn in place while she and the rest of SHINC launch an attack on Pitohui and M.

Although SHINC gets wiped out, Llenn is motivated into action, luring out Pitohui and M as they pursue her in a vehicle.

The Sword Art Online Timeline lists the known time and date of all the events that have occurred in the Sword Art Online series in chronological order. Due to the Fluctlight acceleration function of the Soul Translator, the time in Underworld passes at a much different rate than in real life the FLA rate can be set anywhere from 1, to 5, times the rate of the real world. Therefore, a different calendar, called the Human Empire Calendar HEC , is used for events in Underworld. This calendar only starts counting the time about 30 years after Quinella created the Axiom Church though, so some events do take place before the HEC.
